Leading fuel retailer Waitomo continues expansion with arrival into Nelson
Date: 4 Dec 2024
Top-ranked fuel retailer Waitomo has arrived in Nelson, opening two additional sites, alongside their recently
opened Stoke Fuel Stop.
In response to overwhelming Kiwi demand for new sites, the Hamilton-based fuel supplier is actively building out their network across New Zealand, so more Kiwis can benefit from their fairer fuel pricing.
Waitomo Group Chief Executive Officer Simon Parham says the trifecta of new sites for Nelson completes 11 new sites for Waitomo this year and is particularly special for the Waitomo team.
“We have form for disrupting the fuel market whenever we move into a new region. Following the Commerce Commission’s comments about overinflated pricing in the Nelson region last year, we’ve been committed to delivering competition and choice to the area. It takes time to find the right sites, but we’ve now got three fueling locations we know the local community are going to support.”
“Fuel prices started dropping as soon as it was announced that we were heading to Tasman. This happens in every market we enter – we arrive, and our competitors suddenly get more competitive with their pricing. We’re committed to continuing that disruption across the motu.”
“By using our Waitomo app, Kiwis can also spin to win more fuel savings off our everyday low pump price. Ranked number 1 in New Zealand’s fueling apps, its popularity reflects our commitment to delivering a meaningfully different experience for our Kiwi customers. We put customers first.”
“What a warm welcome we’ve received from the Nelson community since our arrival. We’re looking forward to celebrating with everyone at all three sites – with lots of giveaways, including Moolah to spend on fuel and ice-creams to keep things cool,” says Mr Parham.
Located in Nelson Central and Tāhunanui, the unmanned, 24-hour Fuel Stops will offer retail and commercial customers Unleaded 91, Premium 95, and Diesel. The new sites join our unmanned 24-hour Fuel Stop located at 565 Main Road Stoke, with Unleaded 91, Premium 95, and Diesel on offer for customers too.
Waitomo has been ranked the leading fuel retailer for two years running in New Zealand in the Kantar Customer Leadership Index 2024 and 2023 by Kiwis, and recently won the Waikato Business Awards Supreme Award, as well as the region’s Business Growth and Strategy and Sustainability Awards.
Waitomo’s vision is to become Kiwis first choice for fuel, so an extensive pipeline of new sites is underway to do deliver on that vision.
Established in Te Kuiti in 1947 by Desmond Ormsby, the company now has more than 105 Fuel Stops in the North and South
Island.
