Top-ranked fuel retailer Waitomo continues its South Island expansion in Gore

Top-ranked retail fuel retailer Waitomo has entered the Gore fuel market today, with the opening of their newest Fuel Stop at the original site owned by well-known Gore locals Mel and Maree Gentle. 

“We wish Jimmy Ormsby and his team at Waitomo every success as they venture into the Gore market,” Mrs Gentle says. 

“We are particularly happy that the site will continue to sell fuel albeit in a different retail model. We’re particularly thankful and appreciative for their generous donation to Gore Host Lions to help with continuing projects.” 

In response to overwhelming Kiwi demand for new sites, the Hamilton-based fuel supplier is actively building out their network in the South Island so more Kiwis can benefit from their fairer fuel pricing. Waitomo Chief Executive Officer Simon Parham says today’s opening is an honour for the 100 percent Kiwi-owned and operated business. 

“We’re really stoked that Mel and Maree have chosen us to take over their business that they loved for many years and continue on the legacy that Jimmy Curson started in 1956,” Mr Parham says. 

“We’re a family business too and we want to do them proud. To give back to the community, the Lions Club will be onsite on open day to run a BBQ, and a cent for every litre pumped in the first three months will be donated to the club too as our way of giving back to the local community," 

“Kiwis can also benefit from our Waitomo app and spin to win more fuel savings off our everyday low pump price. We’re delivering even more on opening day with an extra spinning wheel unlocked on top of their first spin to win too.” 

Located at 217 Main Street, the unmanned 24-hour Fuel Stop will offer retail and commercial customers Unleaded 91, Premium 95, and Diesel. 

Waitomo was recently ranked the leading fuel retailer in New Zealand in the Kantar Customer Leadership Index 2023 by Kiwis. Waitomo’s vision is to become Kiwis first choice for fuel, so a pipeline of new sites is underway to do deliver on that vision.
